Mirta De Simoni was born in Cles. She lives and works in Volano. 1975-1982
represents her artistic training. She studied under Gianni Turella and made her
first contacts with the European world of art, concentrating her interests
primarily on the psychology of sign and colour. Sabina Grigolli presents her
research work Analisi etimosimbologica del dipinto "Il Suonatore"
(Etymological and symbolic analysis of painting "The Player") for the
Psychology Seminar held by G. Tibaldi, professor of Personality Theory at the
University of Padova. The art critic Luigi Serravalli, whom Mirta meets for
the first time in 1990, is responsible for a definite volte-face in her career.
From this moment on Serravalli, teacher-philosopher becomes an invaluable mentor
and guide in the artist's stylistic development with his illuminating critical
reviews of the artist's major exhibitions. This period sees the artist
returning to the literary, philosophical and artistic texts of her youth. These
years are densely punctuated by new contacts, debates and analysis. Her interest
in the historic expressionist avant-gard movement is fundamental in orienting
her research towards abstract space which she renders through highly
personalised painterly techniques. Frequent journeys abroad are vital during
these formative years: Paris, Athens, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden,
Copenhagen, Singapore, London, New York
In 1993 she is invited by the
Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea (City Gallery of Contemporary Art) of
Trento to present her own artistic research during the Seminar "Prospettive
e sperimentazione dell'Arte Contemporanea in Trentino" (Perspectives and
Experimentation of Contemporary Art in Trentino) organised by Danilo Eccher.
She participates in the collective show at Castel Ivano: "L'Uomo - L'Albero
- il Fiume" (Man - Trees - Rivers) and "Correnti e Arcipelaghi" -
attualitā dell'arte in Trentino (Currents and Archipelagos - contemporary
artistic trends in Trentino) curated by Luigi Serravalli. A new phase of
artistic investigation begins in 1996 with the invitation to take part in the
symposium "Cento anni di Biennale e di Cinema - La presenza della
Chiesa" (One hundred Years of the Biennal Exibition and of Cinema - The
presence of the Church) at Palazzo Labia in Venice organised by the C.E.I. (The
Congregation of Italian Bishops). This signals the beginnings of a period of
theoretical reflection and active experimentation towards the renewal of Sacred
Art in a wholly innovative and contemporary key. In the same year the artist
is awarded the nomination "Academician of Merit" by the Accademia de
"i 500" of Rome. She collaborates with the Trentino Circle for
Contemporary Architecture with her installation at Castel Ivano on the theme
"The Threshold and Beyond" ("La Soglia e Oltre").
Between 1999-2000 she takes part in a specialisation course "Il progetto
architettonico e la composizione artistica ed iconografica al servizio della
liturgia" (Architectural Planning and Artistic and Iconographic Creation at
the Service of Liturgy), promoted by the Sacred Art Office of the Archbishop's
Curia of Trento in cooperation with the C.E.I. and I.U.A.V. of Venice and the
Brera Academy. In 2000 she attends a study-trip in the artist's workshop at
the Kunstlerhaus Salzburg, and later in Hallein, she participates in a course
run by the Chinese artists, the Zhou Brothers at the International Summer
Academy of Fine Arts. This same year sees the publication by the local City
Council of Volano a monography of her works and an anthological show entitled
"Percorso" ("Pathway") housed in the ancient Casa Legat
and sponsored by the municipality. The exhibition is televised by RAI 3 and
directed by Tiziana Raffaelli. The artist's works are included in the
exhibition "Situazioni" Trentino Arte 2003 organised by MART (The
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) of Rovereto.
